These are all stories for very young children, full of humour, repetition and warmth -
books to cuddle up with and explore together.

MUCKY DUCK
illustrated by Neal Layton

I wanted to write about a little boy getting very messy during all his daily activities. Then I thought it would be fun to transfer his messiness onto a duck friend. So in this book we find both boy and duck getting very mucky as they paint and garden and play football and eat. Young children will have fun chanting 'O you Mucky Duck!'.

NO TROUBLE AT ALL
illustrated by Eleanor Taylor

I had loads of fun writing this story, imagining what a pair of little bears might get up to behind their doting grandfather’s back. When he thinks they’re fast asleep in bed, they’re actually having pillow fights, raiding the kitchen and hiding in the garden. Grandpa believes they’re as good as gold. You, the readers, will know better as you follow Eleanor Taylor’s charming pictures.

A LITTLE BIT OF TROUBLE

illustrated by Eleanor Taylor

This time Granda decides to take those naughty little bears on a picnic.  As they set off across fields and woodland, he is blissfully unaware that the picnic is disappearing fast and that the gate to a field has been left open.  It's no surprise to the reader when a bull appears on the scene, but it is to Grandpa...

OUTSIDE BEARS
illustrated by Alison Bartlett

These bears live in a real bear environment, though Alison Bartlett makes it wildly colourful and fun. Two cubs play in the winter darkness of a cave, while Brown Bear Mum sleeps on. When she wakes up and says it’s time to go outside, they are scared. What is ‘outside’? The cubs are about to find out, ‘step by slippery step’.

WHERE ARE MY CHICKS?
illustrated by Jill Newton

Slightly dotty this book.. A mother hen has lost her chicks. The other animals on the farm help her to find them, but she winds up with too many! Children I have read this to enjoy joining in with the counting, spotting the missing chicks and identifying the animals. Lovely quirky pictures from Jill Newton.

SILLY GOOSE AND DAFT DUCK PLAY-HIDE-AND SEEK
illustrated by Adrian Reynolds

Now these two are truly silly and two of my favourite characters. The friends, both lacking a bit in the brain department, are out for a walk, when they see Clever Fox and invite him to play hide-and-seek with them. Clever Fox, as foxes do, has other ideas (see his hungry smile). Adrian Reynolds has done a brilliant job in bringing all these characters to life for me in his bright and witty pictures.

SILLY GOOSE AND DAFT DUCK TRY TO CATCH A RAINBOW
illustrated by Adrian Reynolds

When Silly Goose decides that her nest needs brightening up, she sets off with Daft Duck to find some colourful decorations. Clever Fox appears and shows them how to dig a hole to catch a rainbow. But what is the hole really for?
